From Barren County Courthouse to First Baptist Church on South Lewis Street is the path of the Glasgow Martin Luther King, Jr. march.
People who participate in the commemorative march Monday, Jan. 20, will walk the path to honor MLK, Jr. on the day set aside to celebrate the Civil Rights leader.
According to First Baptist Church Pastor Michael Rice, the commemorative march will begin in front of the courthouse at noon with a few brief remarks.
Thankfully, Rice remarked, unlike last year when weather canceled the march, this Jan. 20 appears to be “cold, but dry.” The National Weather Service in Louisville forecasts no precipitation Monday with a high temperature near 19 degrees.
Members from the Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County will serve as the “grand marshal” for this march, unless the temperature is too cold, Rice said, and lead people from the courthouse onto East Washington Street and down South Broadway Street to Bunche Avenue.
The service at the South Lewis Street church is set to begin at 1 p.m. with Matt Smyzer, the pastor of Beargrass Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. The service will include, among other things, the iconic I Have a Dream Speech, which was delivered by King during the 1963 March on Washington.
Before the commemorative march and service there will be an event at the church on Jan. 19 featuring Elder Garry Spotts and pastor Chris Curry.
