Barren County residents may soon get the chance to vote in Glasgow, Cave City or Park City elections.
Sponsored by Eastern Kentucky Representative Richard White (R), House Bill 693 would amend Kentucky Revised Statute 116.035 and allow a voter to be “deemed a resident of a city within the county…if [they] have at least 50 percent ownership in a property located within the city precinct.”
The bill was introduced to the House Committee on Committees on Feb.19, which was the last day to introduce House bills.
Currently, a person is eligible to vote based on their residency — which would mean a person with a county address could not vote in city elections regardless of property location.
In 2025 there are no federal, state or local elections scheduled.
