The Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County recently received an advocate of the youth award from the National club for “its commitment and innovative advocacy efforts on issues impacting our youth.”
“Boys and Girls Clubs champion opportunities for all youth, equipping young people with the experiences and tools they need to succeed,” Club CEO Mallie Boston said in a press release. “Our advocacy isn’t just a one-day event. We are raising our voices every single day, to ensure top issues and solutions impacting young people are priorities in our community, our state and at the national level.”
Boston said this distinction is primarily about the club’s relationships with local, or quasi-local, officials and pushing youth-centric initiatives. Information included with the announcement show that in 2024 the club ranked number seven in “overall youth participation,” second “in the entire region for increased teen participation,” over $1 million in individual contributions, over $40,000 from the Department of Labor for internship and workforce development support, and numerous other things.
Boston said they have received this, or similar recognitions for the last five years and during that time her staff continues to raise the bar.
