The second reading of the countywide solar ordinance won’t be voted on until the May 20 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting.
In the first of two monthly fiscal court meetings, the proposed solar farm ordinance appeared to be the headline item, but Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said the magistrates would not address it due to the absence of county attorney Mike Richardson, the absence of Magistrate Tim Durham — who wanted to vote on the ordinance, Byrd said — and the confusion regarding the ordinance itself.
The ordinance establishes additional requirements for future Barren County solar developments, like a decommissioning process and a 1,000-foot setback. At the April 29 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting, the magistrate voted 4-3 in favor of the additional countywide requirements with Magistrate Tim Coomer suggesting an amendment regarding the setbacks from non-participating properties.
Byrd said there would be no public meeting before the second reading, but said those with concerns can contact their magistrates.
The magistrates also unanimously approved the discontinuance of Soccer Way from county maintenance. Byrd said previously the road, which runs into the Glasgow-Barren County Soccer Complex, and its maintenance responsibility will go to the county soccer consortium — which is comprised of Glasgow and Barren County schools, the county, and the City of Glasgow. There was no discussion on this agenda item.
