Governor Andy Beshear announced that all flags are to be flown at half-staff until sunset on May 7 in honor of U.S. Army soldier Kenneth D. Burgess.
Burgess, of Central City, was a member of Company B, 4th Ranger Battalion, “Darby’s Rangers,” in the Mediterranean Theater and was reported missing in action following a patrol toward the village of Sala, Italy, on Sept. 25, 1943.
His remains were identified last summer.
This order from the governor applies to state buildings but he encourages all individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
A graveside service and interment with military honors will take place on Wednesday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
