A Glasgow man has been arrested by Barren County sheriff’s deputies for leaving the scene of a single-vehicle crash that happened late on Sunday, July 27.
Nineteen-year-old Barry Sexton was arrested Monday morning at 7:15. He was seen walking along Scottsville Road and charged with leaving the scene of an accident/failing to render aid, according to his uniform citation. His bond is $2,500 cash and his arraignment is scheduled for July 31 at 12:30 p.m.
His charge stems from a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Matthews Mill Road at about 11:30 p.m. the day prior. After a few “shots of whiskey” in the parking lot of a store in Glasgow, Sexton and a female passenger were “driving around in the rain” Sunday night when he lost control of the vehicle and it hit a tree head on, according to Sexton’s uniform citation.
“[Sexton] stated that after the [crash], he attempted to get help by knocking on a door,” the uniform citation stated. “[Sexton] then stated he left the scene as he was scared and began to walk through the woods.”
The woman had to be extracted from the vehicle and taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, according to the citation. She was later flown to Skyline Medical Center in Tennessee due to her injuries.
“[Sexton] was placed under arrest [on July 28 and] taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital for medical clearance due to the [crash],” the citation stated.
