Dollar General is opening another location near Glasgow north of the city limits.
The new location is at 3890 N. Jackson Hwy., which is near Willow Oaks Golf Club, according to a press release from the corporation. Six to 10 people are expected to be employed at the store “depending on the individual needs.”
“At Dollar General, we believe the addition of our new Glasgow store provides positive economic growth for the community through the creation of new jobs and career growth opportunities; increased accessibility to affordable products; the generation of tax revenue and access to Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants,” said Matthew Simonsen, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development.
The North Jackson Highway store joins the other 13 Barren County Dollar Generals, according to the corporation’s website.
As of February, there were 20,662 Dollar General stores in the U.S. with almost 2,000 of them located in Texas, according to Statista. Kentucky ranks ninth in the list of 48 states that house Dollar Generals with 789 stores. The publicly traded retail chain was founded in Scottsville, Ky.
Brian Yarbrough, a financial advisor with Edward Jones who follows Dollar General, said chain opens so many stores because its profits grow with each one. A new store nets them a roughly 20 percent return he told WBHM, a public radio station in Birmingham, Ala.
