Glasgow drivers are being advised to expect traffic safety checkpoints throughout the month of March.
The Glasgow Police Department announced it will conduct periodic checkpoints within the city limits from March 6 through March 31.
The safety checkpoints will be conducted at various locations in the city. Those locations will include, but are not limited to, Columbia Avenue, West Main Street, North Jackson Highway and Happy Valley Road.
Officers at the checkpoints will focus on enforcing several traffic and safety laws. According to Glasgow Police, they will be checking for drivers operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, proper licensing of both motor vehicles and operators, and valid registration and insurance. Officers will also be watching for seat belt and child restraint violations, as well as other motor vehicle equipment issues.
The department describes traffic safety checkpoints as a tool to promote the safety and well-being of the public while also increasing police visibility and interaction within the community. Officials say similar checkpoints are used throughout the Commonwealth as part of efforts to improve highway safety.
