Barren County magistrates unanimously voted Wednesday morning to remove part of State Quarry Road from the county road system due to the short stretch being used as more of a private business entrance than as a public roadway.
The road, which became a county road in 1996, is located off Highway 31W near Park City. The discontinuance resolution does not affect the entire road, only the portion that lies across the railroad tracks, which is less than a mile, according to the resolution and Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd.
No one spoke during the public hearing. However, Magistrate Ronnie Stinson told the fiscal court that the property owners he spoke with had no complaints about the change.
With the passage of the resolution, the approximately 0.39-mile portion of State Quarry Road across the railroad tracks is no longer part of the Barren County road system.
They followed Kentucky Revised Statutes 178.050 and 178.070 in the process of discontinuing the road, according to the resolution, which involves placing notices in three “prominent places,” advertising the public hearing and inspecting the road.
