A zone change recommendation along East Main Street and a new development at the former Witty’s site on Rogers Drive were actions taken at the Joint City-County Planning Commission’s April 20 meeting.
Commissioners voted unanimously to recommend a zoning change for 512 East Main Street. The property, which fronts Sam Terry Avenue and East Main Street, is owned by applicant Kenneth Ford. Ford requested that the entire parcel be changed from a medium-density residential district to a medium-density multifamily residential district.
The proposed change is intended to allow the construction of 12 additional housing units on the site. Commissioners attached specific conditions to their recommendation, such as no entrance on Sam Terry Avenue, and no construction in the designated flood plain on the property.
The zoning request will be forwarded to the Glasgow City Council for consideration after the commission’s minutes from the April 20 meeting are approved. The council will have the final say on whether the zoning change takes effect.
In a separate action, commissioners also approved a preliminary development plan submitted by Edmonton State Bank. The plan covers property at 211 Rogers Drive, which officials noted is the former location of Witty’s. Preliminary plan approval means the bank’s project has cleared an early planning hurdle.
