The Glasgow City Council is set to meet Monday, June 22, at 6 p.m. at the Luska J. Twyman Municipal Building to work through a full agenda that includes the city’s 2027 budget, federal grant applications and several local appointments.
Council members will take up the second reading of Ordinance 2026, which would approve the City of Glasgow’s fiscal year 2027 budget for the period from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, according to the agenda.
The meeting will begin with routine action to approve Monday’s agenda and the written minutes from the June 8 council meeting.
Under presentations, the Glasgow Police Department plans to introduce three new police officers, who were sworn into duty on June 15.
Council members are also scheduled to hear an introduction to the Friends of Plaza organization from Elizabeth Shoemaker.
In old business, the second reading of the 2027 budget ordinance will be the key item, finalizing spending plans for the coming fiscal year, if approved.
New business includes a resolution authorizing disposal of surplus equipment the police department has designated as no longer needed, pursuant to law.
Another resolution would authorize the mayor to make decisions and sign documents related to disposing of real estate the city acquired through delinquent taxes and code enforcement actions, according to the agenda.
Council is also expected to consider a resolution to apply for a FEMA Assistance grant to purchase hoses, nozzles and appliances for the Glasgow Fire Department.
Two additional resolutions would authorize applying for and, if awarded, accepting FEMA Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities, or BRIC, funding for multiple mitigation projects on behalf of the Glasgow Water Company and the Glasgow Electric Plant Board.
The agenda lists a municipal order appointing Clay Thistlethwaite to the Historic Preservation Commission for a two-year term.
A separate municipal order would reappoint Debbie Livingston to another two-year term on the Glasgow Economic Development Loan Fund board.
Several announcements are also planned, including notice of the first public meeting for the Barren County Strategic Plan, set for Tuesday, June 23, at 5:30 p.m. at 10168 Tompkinsville Road in Glasgow.
The second Movies Under the Stars event at Beaver Creek Park will be Friday, June 26, featuring the movie “Wicked” at dusk with free admission.
Also, Glasgow City Hall and other City of Glasgow administrative offices will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of the July 4 holiday.
The next regular Glasgow City Council meeting is scheduled for July 13 at 6 p.m.
