The Glasgow School Board has approved a new partnership with the Glasgow Athletic Program to create the Glasgow Youth Sports League, aiming to make youth sports more affordable and sustainable for local families. Board members took up the partnership during a special called meeting Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at South Green Elementary, according to Glasgow Independent Schools Superintendent Dr. Chad Muhlenkamp.
Under the agreement, Glasgow Independent Schools and the Glasgow Athletic Program will collaborate to operate the new youth league. Dr. Muhlenkamp said the program will launch with football and basketball in its first year. He indicated they may look at adding more sports after the first season once the league is established. Costs for families are expected to come down because the Glasgow Youth Sports League will fall under the school district’s insurance coverage. The league will also be able to use Glasgow Independent Schools facilities for practices and games.
Coaches in the new league will continue to be volunteers, as they are now under the Glasgow Athletic Program. That structure is expected to remain in place as the two organizations work together. Glasgow Independent Schools and the Glasgow Athletic Program are positioning the partnership as a way to make youth sports more sustainable in the community. Officials say the shared resources could help keep the program going long term.
Dr. Muhlenkamp said he is excited about the opportunity to build on the existing relationship between the district and the athletic program. He indicated the partnership could strengthen youth sports and provide more opportunities for students in Glasgow.
