The Barren County Fiscal Court approved several agreements and resolutions on Tuesday morning during its first meeting for July, as well as the hiring of a construction manager for the agricultural exposition project slated for Cave City.
Codell Construction Company of Winchester was unanimously approved from among five applicants. The company will facilitate the start of the agricultural expo center project slated for Cave City, beginning with the design and working to obtain new market tax credits, according to Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Byrd.
A resolution to change the name of Phelps Road to Huddleston Road was approved 7-0. A petition was filed by property owners to initiate the name change, with signatures from four individuals representing three different addresses on Phelps Road. County Attorney Mike Richardson said he reviewed PVA records and the property lines involved, and that enough signatures were included for the county to consider the change under KRS 179.330.

Magistrates approved hiring Lyons Mechanical Services to provide preventative maintenance services at three different locations:
A two-year proposal for the Barren County Development Center was approved 6-1 and includes maintenance for database systems and alarm monitoring equipment at an annual cost of almost $6,000 per year. Magistrate Tim Coomer voted against the proposal.
A two-year proposal for the Barren County Development Center for HVAC preventative maintenance services passed 7-0 at approximately $23,000 per year.
A one-year proposal for the Barren County Courthouse was approved 7-0 for HVAC preventative maintenance services, with a cost of $8,502 for which the Administrative Office of the Courts will reimburse the county.
The court also approved 7-0 a resolution to allow the judge-executive to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for reimbursements of up to $775,000 for the resurfacing of three roads in Barren County — Beckton Rocky Hill Road, Hollow Road, and Old Munfordville Road.
The court also approved an order of allowance for the Board of Assessment Appeals.
More details are forthcoming regarding the planned town hall meetings to consider county-wide zoning. For those unable to attend, a box has been placed at the county judge-executive’s office, located on the third floor of 117 North Public Square in Glasgow.
“If you cannot attend these town halls and still want to drop off information or a letter stating your concerns or your support for zoning in Barren County, please make sure you drop that off,” Byrd said. “We will be reviewing those as well.”
