The Port Oliver Recreation Area at Barren River Lake will be temporarily closed for five days in August to support maintenance at the lake’s control tower.
According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, the closure will run from Monday, Aug. 10 through Friday, Aug. 14. Corps officials say the gates at Port Oliver will close at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, ahead of the maintenance work.
The recreation area is expected to reopen in time for the following weekend, allowing visitors to return once the project is complete.
During the closure, large equipment and cranes will be operating in the area as crews work on the Barren River Lake control tower. Officials are asking the public to stay away from the work zone and to observe all closures, signs, and barricades posted around Port Oliver.
“For your safety and the safety of our crews, please respect all closures, signs, and barricades,” The Corps said on a Facebook post. “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important work.”
