In their first district contest of the season, the Barren County Trojans fell to Bowling Green, 27-19. The loss dropped to Trojans to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in district action.
Bowling Green struck first Friday night with a touchdown with 8:51 left in the first quarter. The extra point kick was missed, which left the Purples up 6-0.
Barren County answered with a pair of field goals. The first was a 22 yard kick by Jacob Dooley with 1:15 showing in the first quarter.
The Trojans forced the Purples into a turn-over on downs, and Dooley capped the ensuing drive with a 21-yard field that tied the game at 6-6 with 3:07 left in the first half.
Bowling Green fumbled the ensuing kick off, and Barren recovered at the Purples’ 27-yard line.
Corbin Wells finished that drive with a five-yard touchdown run. Dooley added the PAT and Barren led 13-6 at halftime.
The Purples tied the game at 13-all with less than five minutes to play in the third quarter with a 15-yard touchdown pass and PAT.
Bowling Green took the lead for good early in the fourth quarter with a 37-yard touchdown run. The made extra point proved decisive.
Barren County responded with a two-yard touchdown run, but missed the extra point and trailed 20-19 with 7:40 to go in the game.
The Purples added an insurance touchdown with 1:40 left in the game with a 43-yard touchdown run and PAT.
The game was a dead heat in stats. The Trojans posted 302 total yards of offense, while the Purples gained 309 yards of offense.
Wells led Barren on the ground with 85 yards on 12 carries, while Jordan Harris rushed for 41 yards on nine carries, and Jaxon Pierce finished with 33 yards on six runs.
Briggs Harris completed 7 of 16 passes for 94 yards.
Jackson Stephano caught four passes for 52 yards, while Jordan Harris caught a pass for 27 yards.
Barren County hits the road next Friday with a district game at Grayson County at 7 p.m.
