Glasgow sophomore golfer Griffin Jackson made three birdies on the front nine holes Tuesday to stay in contention for a state title.
Jackson opened the Boys’ State Golf Finals at the No. 10 tee box at Bowling Green Country Club. He shot 1-under par through the first six holes, but then hit a rough patch.
He bogeyed holes 16 and 18 and was at 1-over par at the turn to the front nine.
Jackson birdied Hole 2 to get back to even, and birdied No. 5 to climb back to 1-under. He followed that with a bogey on No. 6 and dropped back to even par with three holes to play.
He went par, birdie, par on the final three holes of Day 1 to get to 1-under par 71.
The second round of the state finals will be Wednesday at Bowling Green Country Club.
This story will be updated with Jackson’s tee time, and other players’ rounds from Day 1.
