Kentucky State Police Cadet Class 107 is inviting people across Kentucky to complete a memorial workout Thursday, Oct. 15 in honor of Trooper Hayden Phillips. The cadets plan to complete the workout themselves and are asking others to participate wherever they are, according to their announcement.
Phillips was killed in the line of duty two days before his 29th birthday. The workout, named “Phillips,” uses numbers selected to represent his cadet class, birthday, badge number and end-of-watch date.
The invitation includes KSP troopers, other law enforcement officers, first responders and fitness communities, but participation is open to everyone. The announcement remembers Phillips as a trooper, husband, father, son, brother and friend.
The workout begins with 103 meters of lunges, a reference to Phillips’ membership in Cadet Class 103. That opening exercise is followed by a 29-minute circuit.
The circuit includes three strict pull-ups, six burpees, nine sit-ups and a 103-meter farmer’s carry using a kettlebell or dumbbell. The pull-up, burpee and sit-up counts represent the digits of Phillips’ badge number, 369, according to the announcement.
Participants finish with a 928-meter run. That distance represents Sept. 28, his end-of-watch date.
The cadets are asking participants to take a photo and tag KSP so they can share in the remembrance.
