Barren County Judge Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd lifted the county’s burn ban Nov. 2. The ban had been in effect since Sept. 4, but Division of Forestry restrictions and rules governing authorized items to burn remain in place.
The lifting of the county ban does not remove Kentucky’s seasonal limits on outdoor burning. Glasgow/Barren County Emergency Management reminded residents that the state’s fall forest fire hazard season runs from Oct. 1 through Dec. 15.
During that period, outdoor burning is prohibited between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. within 150 feet of woodland or brushland, according to emergency management. That restriction remains applicable in Barren County despite the change to the local ban.
Burning is permitted after 6 p.m. when conditions allow, the agency said. Officials reminded residents to use good judgment, particularly during dry or windy conditions, even when burning is allowed under the seasonal schedule.
All fires should be attended at all times and completely extinguished before being left, according to emergency management. The reminder applies to fires during permitted burning hours as well.
The Nov. 2 announcement also directed residents to follow the list of authorized items to burn. Seasonal restrictions do not override local burn bans or other burning regulations, emergency management said.
