A Barren County man has been arrested on numerous charges, among them strangulation and wanton endangerment.
Forty-six minutes after midnight on July 25 Barren County sheriff deputies arrested 36-year-old Wesley Houchens at T.J. Samson Community Hospital on charges of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence with minor injury), first-degree strangulation (domestic violence involved), fourth-degree assault (minor injury), first-degree strangulation (non-domestic violence related), first-degree wanton endangerment and second-degree assault (domestic violence), according to a Barren County Sheriff’s Office uniform citation.
The arrest stems from an event that took place the day before on Oil Well Road. According to the uniform citation, a sheriff’s deputy arrived at the residence and heard reports that Houchens had pointed a gun at a man’s head, hit him in the rib cage “leaving a visible mark,” and choked him “against the porch support…to the point he could not breath.”
The father of the man being choked fought Houchens. Houchens and the man he was fighting were both shot in the leg by a pistol in Houchens’ pocket, the uniform citation stated.
Houchens’ wife told deputies he was intoxicated and threatened to “take their children from the home.” After shoving Houchens, the citation stated, he grabbed her and choked her, leaving visible marks as well.
As of the time of publication, Houchens has no bond, according to the Barren County Detention Center, and his court appearance is set for July 28 at 12:30 p.m.
