Numbers from the Kentucky Center for Statistics show Barren County was one of the 115 counties where unemployment fell in June 2025 compared to June 2024.
The June 2025 unemployment rate was 5.2 percent, which is 0.7 percent lower than the 5.9 percent recorded during that month last year. In the center’s release it states unemployment numbers should only be compared to previous numbers from the same month due to the “sharp fluctuations” the percentages undergo due to seasonal events, like school openings and closings, or vacation.
In June 2025, there were 18,307 people in the labor force — which includes “non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work [and] not unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks — with 946 individuals listed as unemployed
Barren County’s 5.2 percent is higher than the statewide average of 4.9 percent and the national average of 4.4 percent, according to the center’s numbers.
