Two out of the three people indicted in a federal theft case involving a Glasgow company have entered into guilty pleas, according to court documents.
In an indictment filed in the Western District of Kentucky on Nov. 13, 2024, Sarah D’Auria, Robert Newman and Isaac Newman were indicted on charges of theft of medical products and two counts of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances when the trio “stole controlled substances being shipped from a pharmaceutical distributor outside of Kentucky to a pharmaceutical distributor inside Kentucky prior to the controlled substances being made available for retail purchase,” the indictment stated.
The distributor in Kentucky was Ritchie Pharmacal in Glasgow, according to the complaint filed with the court.
Isaac Newman entered into a guilty plea on May 1 to two of the three charges listed in the indictment. The charges “carry a combined maximum term of imprisonment of 16 years, a combined maximum fine of $350,000, and a 3-year term of supervised release,” his plea agreement stated. However, in the same plea agreement, it stated the U.S. will recommend a sentence of imprisonment at the lowest end of the applicable Guideline Range, but not less than any mandatory minimum, “stipulate that the restitution owed is $4,500” and demand a forfeiture of $20,702. His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 22 at 10:30 a.m.
Isaac Newman’s plea agreement is the same as the one entered for Sarah D’Auria, who entered into a guilty plea in March. Her sentencing, which was originally set for June 9, will also be on Oct. 22.
A complaint signed by DEA Task Force Officer Benjamin Shirley stated Isaac Newman was the driver of the vehicle that had 14 “large cardboard boxes” containing schedule 5 controlled substances intended for Ritchie Pharmacal.
Robert Newman, the third person indicted in this crime, had an arrest warrant that was “returned unexecuted,” court records stated, and the last document filed in his case, which is filed under seal, was Nov. 20, 2024.
