Farmers RECC rates are expected to be impacted by today’s Public Service Commission ruling that allows East Kentucky Power to increase its revenue.
East Kentucky Power, which is the main power supplier for Farmers RECC, requested a 7.49 percent revenue increase from the Kentucky Public Service Commission. In its final order, issued on April 23, commissioners authorized a 5.98 percent revenue increase.
The 16 owner-member cooperatives of East Kentucky Power also filed “applications for a pass-through increase in rates to correspond with [the East Kentucky Power] increase,” according to a commission press release. Farmers RECC is one of the owner-members.
Director of Member and Public Communication at Farmers RECC Caralyne Pennington confirmed in an email to Glasgow News 1 that the cooperative’s rates will be impacted, but is not certain how as Farmers RECC flow-through case is still pending. The orders relating to the owner-members are expected in the “next few days,” according to the commission press release.
The current Farmers RECC rate is a $23 customer charge and a $0.103125 per kWh energy charge, Pennington wrote in an email to Glasgow News 1. Farmers RECC had over 14,000 active accounts in Barren County in 2024, according to the cooperatives annual report.
