Barren County Schools full-time employees will be receiving a two percent raise for the upcoming school year.
Board of education members approved the move during their regular monthly meeting Thursday night at the district’s central office.
“One of our greatest responsibilities as a district is attracting and retaining outstanding employees,” Superintendent Amy Irwin said. “We are the second-largest employer in Barren County. Our people are the most valuable asset.
“We know that they are the reason that our students experience success each day at our schools.”
Irwin said as part of the district’s continued commitment “to recruiting and retaining exceptional educators, support staff — both certified and classified — would like to recommend a two percent salary increase.”
The superintendent added that she is very proud of the school board for supporting staff members.
“Over the past five years, they have demonstrated just steadfast leadership, approving accumulative 19 percent increase in staff pay,” she said. “That is a clear investment in our people, our classrooms and the future of our schools.”
Irwin said this new pay increase represents a 21 percent increase over the last six years.
“Your support has allowed us to remain competitive,” she said to board members. “We are very excited to see the number of people applying to our school district. We are having strong applicants and numerous applicants who want to be a part of the school district.
“So, thank you, to each board member for supporting our staff with competitive pay. It’s allowed us to, again, support our current staff and recruit great talent for the future.”
