The Plaza Theatre Advisory Board had a special-called meeting Wednesday in the Glasgow City Council chambers.
After the meeting was called to order by chairman Jerry Ralston to discuss personnel, he handed the floor to Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse.
On Tuesday, Plaza Theatre executive director Carolyn Glodfelter was relieved of her duties.
Royse reiterated Wednesday the decision was not based on misconduct or any violation of law. He pointed out the City of Glasgow is an at-will employment city, which means any employee can be fired, or can leave at any time for any reason.
The mayor said the primary purpose for Wednesday’s meeting was to explain the next steps.
Ben Rascoe has been appointed interim director until a full-time director can be hired. Rascoe is the technical director for the theater.
The mayor said the director position will be posted Thursday on the city’s website, and sent to other employment outlets. He encouraged anyone who would like to be involved in the interview process for the next director to contact Ralston.
Board member Cody Meek said it was important for the public to know that “all of the shows on the book are going on as planned.”
This Saturday, Sept. 19, the Wizard of Oz will be shown at 7 p.m. at the Plaza.
Glodfelter had led the Plaza since September 2015, overseeing day-to-day operations, events and programming.
Royse said Rascoe and a couple of part-time employees at the theater will oversee operations until a new executive director is hired.
“We have quite an asset with the Plaza Theatre,” the mayor said.
The Plaza Theatre was opened in 1934, and purchased by the City of Glasgow in 2001.
