It was mostly business as usual for the seven magistrates of the Barren County Fiscal Court on Tuesday.
The meeting lasted just under an hour. The magistrates and county Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd approved payments of several invoices; two of which were previously approved for incorrect amounts. The first was from Dukes A and W Enterprises for $8,270 relating to an “electric poly hopper spreader” and the other was an invoice from Barren County Business Supply for $24,832.82.
The last invoice was from Harp Enterprises for their election materials, like machine programming and production and audio. That invoice had a total of $38,842.55.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the meeting came at the end when the court went into closed session to discuss “proposed or pending litigation.” The closed session was originally not on the agenda, but was instead added with the adoption of the “orders of the day.”
With unanimous approval, the seven magistrates, the Byrd and County Attorney Mike Richardson filed into the small conference room adjoining the court chambers. After only a few minutes they returned and, before adjourning, voted to allow Byrd to sign the necessary paperwork to settle with a former employee.
A second came from Magistrate Marty Kinslow and was met with unanimous approval.
The next Barren County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet on Dec. 17.
